Rising from the ashes was created as part of Claire’s graduate showcase and as an entry into the 2017/18 Hand and Lock Prize for Embroidery. Winning her 2nd prize in the Student Fashion Category.
The phoenix is created using multiple techniques including intricate goldwork, beadwork and raised sequin work and uses many fabrics such as leather, woven steel and metal threads. The pattern on the fabric was inspired by the stone carvings found in the Nasraid Palace at the Alhambra, Granada where she spent the summer of 2016. The patterns were hand drawn before being translated digitally into a repeat pattern. The pattern was then silk screen printed by hand onto silk devore and hand dyed.
This work has been exhibited at the Staffordshire University graduate showcase ‘Show and Tell’, New Designers Part 1 2017 at the London Design Centre Islington and at the Bishopsgate Institute for the final of the Hand and Lock Prize for Embroidery. It is currently held at the Hand & Lock Atelier in London.
